THE 3RD SYMPHONY BY HENRYK GORECI PRESENTED AT ST. ELISABETH CATHEDRAL IN KOŠICE. FOR UKRAINE.
Sunday, 26 at 20.30 p.m., a unique Dome of St. Elisabeth will be filled with tones of one of the most famous works of contemporary classic music the 3rd Symphony called Symphony of Sorrowful Songs by Henryk Gorecki. An exceptional concert prepared by the State Theatre Opera in cooperation with Košice Archdiocese Charity. Proceeds from the charity event will be donated to Ukrainian men and women fleeing from the horror of war.
“The 3rd Symphony by Gorecki is one of the strongest and the most fragile music pieces among the symphonies. The State Theatre Orchestra will perform under chief conductor Peter Valentovič while soprano solo will be interpreted by a young Slovak singer Slávka Zámečníková. The Symphony of Sorrowful Songs inspires us to stop ourselves, take a deep breath and go on filled with hope and love. Its November premiere in Kunsthalle, yet before the closure of theatres, left the impression of eternal beauty and hope on audience. We did not know that the final concert of the State Theatre Opera will bring such a strong and up-to-date message of peace and heroism. Just music can deliver such a message in times when artists, including those from our theatre, fight in neighbouring Ukraine. This charity concert shall be held thanks to our cooperation with Košice Archdiocese Charity in the beautiful Dome of St. Elisabeth. The proceeds from the event will be contributed to the men and women from Ukraine to mitigate war difficulties“, says Roland Khern Tóth, Opera Director.
Cyril Korpesio, the President of Košice Archdiocese Charity, adds: “We look forward and value the cooperation with the State Theatre Košice. We are glad to be a part of prepared charity concert to support the activities aimed at Ukrainian war refugees’ integration. We believe that by way of culture and art we can do good for others.“
Among the sorrow brought by war, we fight back by solidarity and reconciliation. The war expelled thousands from Ukraine and they came to Slovakia with belief and hope that good people will support them. The State Theatre Košice, where many Ukrainian artists perform, just as Košice Archdiocese Charity strive to be close to the people. Today, the Charity operates four Assistance Centres in Košice, Prešov, Snina, and Michalovce, offering a perfect space for mutual meetings and integration of Ukrainian refugees who found a safe haven and temporarily home in Slovakia.
Košice Archdiocese Charity will collect donations during the concert, viewers will have their opportunity to contribute and thus show their support to Ukraine impacted by war and its citizens who saved their lives by fleeing from their destructed homes.
