The Black Water is a typical Schimmelpfennig poetry of silence with strong melancholic tones. In this play, the author fulfills the dream of a summer night about a world where all social, cultural and religious differences are carried away by water, the Black Water. Theater often tells simple stories from life, and in the case of the Black Water, the narration itself is simple, but still it is somehow beautiful and intrinsically necessary to listen to this narration in silence.

The older SELF is talking to the younger SELF, TODAY is talking to YESTERDAY. We live THEN, but we also live TODAY at the same time. Without THEN, TODAY could hardly exist. And without TODAY, it could hardly be TOMORROW.
